.YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres.

Hello guys and girls,

The other week I saw a blog post from my Make Up Artist idol Lisa Eldridge, about the new YSL lipstick/gloss/stain, Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres. I fell in love with the concept of them immediately and knew I had to have at least one in my life as soon as possible. Queue trip to The Bullring with my Mum on Saturday and the deed was done.

I'm not one to review a product so quickly after using it, but this has to be talked about. The product is a hybrid of a lipstick, a lipgloss and a lip stain. You know how it goes - Lipstick sometimes doesn't have that sheen you crave, lipgloss is sometimes not pigmented enough and a little bit gloopy and lip stains can dry your lips out like no-one's business. YSL have very cleverly fused all three products together and in my opinion, have come out on top.

Here's what they say on their website:

  • GLOSS? STAIN? LIPSTICK? WHY COMPROMISE? HAVE IT ALL
  • Live the sophistication of a boundless glossy colour that truly fuses
  • your lips in a new shine. A GLOSSY STAIN you barely feel.
  • OUR NEW MOVEMENT IN LIPWEAR IS BORN.
They're not lying. I agree with every statement they have put on their site and I believe they've created something that every woman wants, needs and can now have.

I was on the lookout for a red shade, as I was going out that night and had a lovely leopard print pencil skirt that I wanted to compliment with a red lip. There are 19 shades to choose from, ranging from lovely nude pinks to deep violet shades, so there is something for everyone. There were two reds that caught my eye but I ended up plumping for number 9 Rouge Laque, which is a great classic red shade.

I like the fact you can see the colour before you open the product, great for professional kits and make up bags alike. The packaging is lovely, really sleek and sophisticated much like all other YSL beauty products. The one thing I really love about the packaging is the applicator. A tear drop shaped wand that fits the curves of your lips amazingly well, so much so that I managed a perfect red lip on the car journey home.

The texture of the product is like nothing i've used before. It's so light and almost feels a bit watery, but not runny in the slightest. Once it's on your lips it feels creamy, nourishing and barely there. The smell is lovely too, a sweetie sort of scent.

Here are some pictures of me wearing it. I did wear MAC Brick lipliner and MAC Russian Red as well on my night out so I have included a picture of me wearing it bare on my lips with nothing else - taken today, so please excuse the fact I'm wearing no other make up, as I am having a chilled day before a busy week of shoots and shows this week.

Without flash.
With flash.
Bare on my lips, applied straight on with the applicator.

So there we have it - massive love for this product, so thank you YSL. I will 100% be investing in some other colours. I say investing thanks to the £22.50 price tag - ouch. Thankfully I got this for £12.50 as I had a tenner on my Debenhams beauty card... A definite sign I spend far too much money on make up!

Love, Kate x
